Depending on how much control and ownership you want to have, you may decide to either self-host, or to let me manage hosting on your website. The advantage to self-hosting is that you will own your domain name but it will be more expensive. If you let me host your site, then I will have ownership of your domain name but you will not have to pay for individual service items.

How much does it cost to self-host?

The following is a list of the most general things people ask about for each project. I spell out some of the specific items involved so you can have a clearer picture on the cumulative price (and nature) of websites.

ServiceYearly Cost
Domain Name (free with most hosting services the first year)$15
Hosting ($5.92/month)$71.04
WordPress Installation$50
Website Content Management (per page)$10

Using the chart above, a website with five pages would cost $171.04 (Domain Name + Hosting + WordPress Installation + 5 Pages) the first year and $86.04 (Hosting + Domain Name) per year every year after that.

Managed Hosting

Managed hosting is where I own your domain name but I cover the cost of hosting, initial WordPress installation, and content management for 5 pages on your website. Any additional page after the initial 5 costs $10.

Managed HostingYearly Cost
• Hosting on a shared plan
• WordPress Installation
• Website Content Management for 5 pages
* With this option, I would technically own your domain name.
Website Content Management (per additional page)$10

Using the chart above, you would pay $50 a year no matter how many changes you ask to be made on up to 5 pages of your website. If you want to include more pages into the package, you would pay $10 per page with the option of adding pages yourself for free.

Description of Services

Domain Name

The domain name is the internet name for your website. It can end with,, etc. Some companies charge $100/year for domain and DNS management, but you can purchase your own domain at any registrar on the web for around $15/year. Some old domains can sell for millions, but you probably want your own new one. If you decide to look for your own hosting services, you may be able to choose one that comes with a free domain name.

The price of hosting depends on the type of hosting you choose (dedicated, shared, free). Additional fees may be required for additions like SSL (Secure Socket Layer certificate) or static IP Address. You can get your own shared hosting service for $8 a month ($98 a year) at A Small Orange. If you choose my managed hosting plan ($50), your website would be part of my shared hosting plan.

WordPress Installation

This includes installation of WordPress, installation of an existing theme, imagery collection, and sitemap and page structure generation.

Website Content Management

You can write your website’s content yourself, outsource it overseas for around $1 per page, or use a content writing firm which will charge around $100-$200 per page. Just like a website design, you get what you pay for when it comes to content creation that will rank your site high in search engines and engage your audience. My rate for this service covers creating pages on your website, getting your content to your pages, and making changes when you request it, but you will always have the ability to add content to your website yourself for free.

While most websites are built on easy-to-use CMS’ nowadays, not everyone knows how to get started with them. This price point includes the time spent training you how to use your new site, as well and ensuring that everything works properly and giving you the chance to make any necessary changes. This is currently included with any service, but it will likely change in the future.

Training includes:
  • Creating and modifying pages
  • Add content to media library
    • Drag and drop media to library
    • Edit media information (Caption, Alt Text, Description)
    • Free photography resources
  • Miscellaneous
    • Moderating comments
    • Editing your profile
    • Updating plugins and themes
